RESEARCH

Ouchi Laboratory is engaged in the research and development of new smelting and recycling processes for metals with an aim to achieve “Highly Efficient Use of Energy and Resource Recycling.” We contribute to the development of advanced technologies by efficiently converting energy into metal forms. We also contribute to the realization of a sustainable society by developing innovative recycling processes that actualize resource recycling.

July 31, 2026 — Laboratory Renovation and Relocation

On July 31, 2026, the relocation and setup of the Ouchi Laboratory at the Nishi-Waseda and Honjo campuses were completed. Although some additional work and improvements are still needed, the laboratories have now begun operation.

April 1, 2026 — Moved to Waseda University

On April 1, 2026, We moved from the Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo, to the Graduate School of Environment and Energy Engineering, Waseda University. We will continue to engage in research and development in the fields of extractive metallurgy and metal recycling.

Students from Kaichi Nihonbashi Gakuen Junior and Senior High School Participated in the Tour of the Institute of Industrial Science

On August 26, 2025, a tour of Ouchi Lab and the DXL Design Lab at the Institute of Industrial Science (IIS), The University of Tokyo was held. Twelve students from Kaichi Nihonbashi Gakuen Junior and Senior High School participated in the tour.

Tour of the Ouchi Laboratory at UTokyo Komaba Research Campus Open House 2025

For two days from May 30 to May 31, 2025, the UTokyo Komaba Campus Research Open House 2025 took place and the Ouchi Laboratory presented an exhibit on the smelting and recycling of non-ferrous metals such as precious metals and rare metals, as well as related processes. Graduate students explained the exhibit to visitors.
